ThinkTank’s “Wired Up”

July 21st, 2009

** EDIT: How funny that just a day after making this post, the Multimedia Wired Up Collection is now up and available for purchase! Thanks ThinkTank! **

I’m very much looking forward to ThinkTank’s Multimedia Wired Up Collection – a collection of camera bags that accommodate a multimedia, visual journalist. That is to say, bags that allow us to carry ALL of our gear. Not just a camera but our camera, necessary lenses, sound recording equipment (including recorders, mics, headphones, etc), and video equipment. At once! The best part? It still allows us to be completely mobile (which is hugely important for me)!

The 15 Worst Album Covers of All-Time

November 19th, 2008

I stumbled upon this looking through links on digg.com. So, cracked.com presents to us The 15 Worst Album Covers of All-Time. And honestly, the commentary under each album cover is some funny shit.

unusual hotels

October 6th, 2008

I came across this link through stumbleupon and found it totally enthralling. Unusual Hotels of the World is an amazing archive of, well, unusual places to stay worldwide. Check the list next time you’re travelling and looking for a more unique place to stay than a chain establishment.

Wordle

September 12th, 2008

wordle is a little page that is designed to capture a snapshot of words on a website and create an image of them. Its a little bit like those magnet words you place on refrigerators. You can type in a bunch of text yourself or input a URL and it’ll grab phrases from it.

Sigh

Is it a necessity that strange people always have to be from Texas?

Holiday Cards

November 11th, 2006

While attempting to get started on some holiday shopping, I came across these adorable cards from DeMarco Designs. I realize that purchases from indie outlets and boutiques can be more expensive. But how wonderful is it when you receive a gift that is wrapped and tagged with the most unique of things! I love watching people open gifts I give and watching their reaction when they read these cards will be very much worth the cost. Besides, can you really put a price on seeing a loved one smile ear to ear?

Silver Screen Gems

October 12th, 2006

Renaissance will be the future of feature film animation. And the fact that it takes place in Paris is a happy bonus. To be honest, I’ve always had a mondo crush on Leonardo DiCaprio ever since I saw his performance in This Boy’s Life (which was, by the way, based on the memoirs of Tobias Wolff). And in my teens, Baz Lurhman’s adaptation of Romeo & Juliet was my generation’s Casablanca. In seriousness, I’ve been following DiCaprio’s career for years (and oh dear, did you see The Departed? No? You really ought to.) and happy to see he was cast in Blood Diamond with Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou.

I think I must adore boyish charm because Emile Hirsch is also one of my crushes (and you’ll remember him as the geeky but adorable Matthew Kidman in The Girl Next Door) so to see him in such a serious and “grown up” role in the upcoming alphadog cements my theory that this kid isn’t going anywhere but up.

Music and other goods

October 8th, 2006

Do you ever get into those moods where you hop onto your computer and for the next several hours, you do nothing…and I do mean nothing besides discovering delicious new music and productivity tools?Lately, I’ve discovered the newest Madeleine Peyroux‘s cd, Half the Perfect World. Oftentimes, I get the most out of jazz-infused genres during a live performance. I love listening to the chaotic pattern of that music; the way it adds cadence to a person’s walk, sway, voice. Peyroux’s newest offering makes me appreciate it outside that realm. I enjoy it at home (and I like it much more than her first).

But the thing that’s got my heart all a twitter and ticking is Corinne Bailey Rae‘s self titled CD. Its outstanding.

Its no secret that my favourite type of music – the type that most speaks to my soul, engages my mind, and snatches my heart – is real, true hip hop. But even better than that is the type of hip hop that finds new ways to surprise me. Fusions of jazz, rock, funk, old school beats, soul – you name it. If its got a fusion like that, I’ll give a listen. Hell, I might even love it.

If you haven’t heard Rae’s music before, you’ve got to give it a listen. Beautiful voice (maybe like a softer Macy Gray), slow beats, and lots…lots..of cadence. Got iTunes? Here’s her store.
